PERSONAL INFO
Lucy Tomberlin was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia and graduated from Valdosta High School.  She received a B.A. in History at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia before attending law school at the University of Georgia.  She graduated from law school in 1993 and returned to Valdosta to practice.  She is admitted to practice in both Georgia and Florida, although her Florida practice is currently limited to Social Security appeals in Federal District Court.
CAREER
Ms. Tomberlin limits her practice to the fields of Social Security and Elder Law.  She represents Social Security claimants at all stages from the initial application to appeals in Federal District Court.  Although the majority of her Social Security cases are disability claims, she also handles a variety of other Social Security issues including survivor's benefits, retirement claims, and overpayment cases.  Her Elder Law practice is largely provided through the Elderly Legal Assistance Program, a grant program established through Title III of the Older Americans Act to provide legal services to people over the age of 60.  The South Georgia Elderly Legal Assistance Program serves clients in Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Tift, and Turner Counties.  Although open to everyone over the age of 60, the Elderly Legal Assistance Program specifically targets seniors most in need because of financial need, poor health or disability, or social/residential isolation.  Areas of priority concern are financial benefits, advanced directives, and consumer issues.  The Elderly Legal Assistance Program cannot provide services in the areas of bankruptcy, torts (personal injury or malpractice), commercial real estate, criminal cases, or complex estate planning/taxation.  Wills are only provided free of charge to homebound seniors.  Otherwise wills are provided at a reduced charge.  In addition to her work through the Elderly Legal Assistance Program, Ms. Tomberlin has a private estate planning and probate practice.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
Ms. Tomberlin is a life long member of Christ Episcopal Church where she is an assistant Sunday School teacher for pre-school aged students and serves on the Altar Guild.  She is an active member of Quota International of Valdosta, an international service organization that supports local charities.  She currently serves on the board of directors of Quota, is a past District Officer, and is on the planning board for Quota's Taste of Valdosta fund-raiser.  She is also a member of the Cultural Arts Guild.  Outside the law office she enjoys gardening, reading, and shopping as well as cheering for the Valdosta Wildcats, the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves and also Mr. Bass' favorite team, the Atlanta Falcons.
